Working DNS for U.S. Netflix – 11/26/2013
Update 11/26/2013: It seems that the below DNS servers do not work for everyone. They seem to work for apps like NHL Gamecenter, but not Netflix. Ièll update when I have better ones.
For those of us who live in Canada we don’t get to experience the multitudes of content that U.S. Netflix users get. As you’re probably already aware, it’s actually quite simple to get U.S. Netflix in Canada, so I’m not going to go through the process. What I am going to do is provide you with working DNS servers so that you Canadian folk can access U.S. Netflix.
Preferred DNS: 126.96.36.199
Secondary DNS: 188.8.131.52
** These are the ones that worked for me.**
This will work on any device that allows you to update DNS servers. What to access U.S. Netflix on your computer? go for it! Smartphone? Hell yeah you can! Apple TV? Wii? Xbox 360? PS3? Yes! Yes! Yes! and Yes!!
DNS servers simply translate domain names (ie: justinconcepts.com) into IP Addresses (184.108.40.206). So when I update the DNS servers to the ones I provide above, and my Xbox sends out the request to access Netflix, it first goes to these DNS servers and says, “Hey, I’m looking for the IP Address of Netflix, help a bro out?”.
The DNS Server then looks at it’s list of last known IP Addresses of Netflix and sends a request to Netflix to make sure that it’s okay to give my Xbox the information. Netflix only sees that the DNS servers that are requesting the information are in the United States so it sends back the information as such.
Pretty simple right?
